The Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services has awarded the Senior Hunger Corporate Leader Award to The Kroger Co.
Kroger is the first recipient of the award, which recognizes the company’s strong community presence and proven track record of identifying and implementing innovative solutions to address hunger among senior citizens.
“On behalf of our entire team at Kroger, thank you. It is a true honor to receive this award,” said Felix Turner, manager of corporate affairs for Kroger’s Atlanta Division. “But our work has only begun. It is an absurdity that more than 40 percent of the food produced in the U.S. is uneaten annually, and yet one in eight Americans face food insecurity every day. Our seniors are even more vulnerable. Kroger is committed to Zero Hunger | Zero Waste, our bold plan to help create communities free of hunger and waste by 2025.”

The award was announced at Georgia’s Fifth Annual Senior Hunger Summit presented by the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services. The summit brings together a diverse group of experts, policymakers and community stakeholders to heighten awareness of senior hunger in Georgia and nationally, unearth issues accompanying the problem, highlight best practices and seed opportunities to combat hunger among seniors.
The Kroger Co. has 30,000 associates who serve customers daily by delivering a seamless shopping experience throughout Kroger’s Atlanta Division, which includes Georgia, Eastern Alabama and South Carolina.
