Walt Churchill’s Market first opened its doors in Toledo, Ohio, in 1917. It was essential to the Churchill family to provide a location where families could get all their groceries without traveling all the way downtown. Instead, dedicated brothers, Jim and Joe would make the trip downtown to purchase fresh produce, stocking the shelves for their community.

In 1937, business was booming; Walt Churchill Sr. purchased the family business from his father. Walt Sr. took on many roles in his life, from major general in the Marine Corps to the successful businessman known affectionately as “The General.” All the while, Walt Churchill Jr., with a decorated Marine career, helped his father build and grow the business. After Walt Sr.’s passing in 1998, he assumed control of the company.

As Walt Churchill’s Market continued to grow and evolve, they partnered with North Country Business Products for its retail technology needs. Both companies hold similar values; this is evident in the fact that both are employee-owned.

“It is important to us to partner with companies that align with our own values,” said Kunal Dawar, VP of operations for Walt Churchill’s Market.

During their partnership, NCBP has helped implement an HQ system between the two locations. “As we worked with Kunal and the WCM team, it is easy to talk about how we can help them grow with their technology needs,” said Jeff Zimmerman, director of sales at North Country Business Products.

Hosting between the stores allows the WCM to stay close to their pricing methods for both locations while maintaining competitive pricing schemes. One of the main reasons to move to a host environment is to have data at your fingertips; comparing stores, categories and vendors allows the team to feel they have the toolbox needed to run their business. In addition, working with LOC Software and NCBP’s highly trained staff allows for customization to almost any report.

To enhance the customer experience, WCM decided to implement a rewards program. With the support of NCBP, LOC Software and AppCard, a convenient and flexible loyalty program – WCM Rewards – was launched.

“Implementing our WCM Rewards program was simple; NCBP and APPCard set a project plan, asked what we wanted, and easily put the program in place,” Dawar said.

LOC Software has partnered with AppCard allowing for flexibility and functionality for any retailer. This empowers WCM to stay true to its roots, knowing that the marketplace should be centered around customer satisfaction.

“Providing solid solutions such as LOC Software to our customers is important to NCBP, and working with the WCM team is a pleasure. We look forward to their continued technology and process partnership,” Zimmerman said.
