To enhance its capacity to store finished goods and streamline shipping, Catania Oils has leased a 215,000-square-foot warehouse at 90 Nemco Way in Ayer, Massachusetts.
The development comes on the heels of the company’s 51,000 square-foot expansion at 1 Nemco Way last fall. It also will include space for about 60 employees who are housed at 3 Nemco Way.
The latest expansion brings the operational footprint of Catania, a processor and packager of plant-based oils, to more than 400,000 square feet, with room for further growth.
Founded more than a century ago by Italian immigrant Giuseppe Basile, the business is in its fourth generation of the Basile family. The company is one of the largest manufacturers in Ayer, where it has been for more than 26 years.
Catania products are used in the bulk ingredient, food service, retail and private label markets in New England and nationwide.
Some of the brands that contain Catania Oils include Gorton’s Seafood, Ken’s Salad Dressing, Frito-Lay, Stacy’s Pita Chips and Cedar’s Hummus. Its oil is marketed under the Marconi and LaSpagnola brands at retailers such as Market Basket, Shaw’s, Hannaford, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.
Joseph Basile, president of Catania Oils, shared his enthusiasm for the company’s evolution.
“Today marks yet another milestone in our company’s exciting growth journey,” Basile said.
“Our new space at 90 Nemco Way will enable us to expand both our capacity and speed of delivery to our customers.”
