Meijer Opening Three Supercenters In Two States May 14

Meijer Hillsdale Supercenter

May 14 is shaping up as a big day for Meijer after the retailer announced it will open three new 159,000-square-foot supercenters in two states – Alliance and North Canton, Ohio, and Hillsdale, Michigan.

The Meijer supercenters will feature traditional grocery staples, such as fresh produce, bakery, meat and deli, as well as a floral area, garden center and home goods. They also will include a pharmacy, health and beauty care, large pet department, electronics, toys, sports and apparel.

A Meijer Express gas station will open April 18 adjacent to the stores.

Alliance and North Canton, Ohio

“Ohio has always been significant to us, as it was the first state we expanded to outside of Michigan,” said Todd Anderson, VP of the Ohio region for Meijer.

“The feedback we’ve received from customers here in Northeast Ohio about our value and convenience has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to building upon that momentum specifically here in Alliance and North Canton.”

Meijer opened its first store in Ohio in 1981 and has invested heavily in the state ever since. The retailer employs more than 11,000 team members statewide at stores and its distribution and manufacturing facilities in Tipp City and plans to continue investing in the state through new store openings and remodeling current stores.

Hillsdale, Michigan

The Hillsdale store will be Meijer’s 127th supercenter in Michigan.

“As we celebrate the 90th anniversary of Meijer this year, we’re thrilled to be opening a new store in our home state to mark the occasion,” said Shawn Buckner, VP of the mid-Michigan region for Meijer.

“We know value and convenience are top of mind for our customers, and we look forward to providing a one-stop shopping experience that offers both here in Hillsdale.”

Meijer was founded in Michigan, opening its first store in Greenville in 1934, and has invested heavily in its home state. It employs about 40,000 team members at stores, distribution and manufacturing facilities, and the company’s headquarters in Grand Rapids.

Meijer plans further investment  in Michigan long-term through store openings, remodels, job creation and support of local nonprofits.
