The Dairy Deli Bakery Council (DDBC) of Southern California held a dinner meeting at the Holiday Inn in La Mirada, Calif., on Tuesday.

Bill MacAloney, founder and CEO of Jax Markets, received the DDBC Lifetime Achievement Award for his 50-plus years of service to the grocery industry. MacAloney has served as president of WAFC, co-chair of FMI, chairman of Certified Grocers (now Unified), chairman of CGA and president of the City of Hopes Food Industry Circle.

Jim Veregge of Unified Grocers guided the audience through MacAloney’s life with a presentation styled after the old TV show “This is Your Life.”

MacAloney acknowledged and credited his mentors, Ben Schwartz and Jack Brown, among others, for his success.
