The Food Industry Sales Managers’ Club (FISMC) of Los Angeles recognized Unified Grocers during a luncheon Tuesday at Quiet Cannon Montebello Country Club.
Al Plamann, CEO of Los Angeles-based Unified Grocers, served as the event’s keynote speaker. He discussed the many changes to the industry and the California marketplace in regards to competition as well as the impact of new taxes on small businesses. He pointed out that the “new demographic is behavior” and that promotional dollars need to be directed to consumer behavior instead of “old-school” demographics.
Plamann believes the future of the independent grocer is bright and that they are better equipped to compete against the national chains with neighborhood marketing and an understanding of what the transformational shopper wants.
