Robert Yeakel has joined the National Grocers Association’s (NGA) government relations department as a director. In this role, Yeakel will manage payments and data security policy issues.
“Robert’s experience on Capitol Hill will be a tremendous benefit to the NGA team as we continue to score legislative victories for the independent supermarket industry,” said Chris Jones, VP of government relations and counsel. “With the 116th Congress sworn in last week, Robert joins our team at a vital time for Main Street Grocers throughout the country.”
Yeakel most recently worked as a policy advisor for the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Budget, where he managed and advised members of Congress on a wide portfolio of issues that included telecommunications, cybersecurity and financial services.
He received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2009 and a master of professional studies degree in political management from the George Washington University in 2017.
NGA represents the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry. The independent grocery sector is accountable for close to one percent of the nation’s overall economy and is responsible for generating $131 billion in sales, 944,000 jobs, $30 billion in wages and $27 billion in taxes. NGA members include retail and wholesale grocers, state grocers associations, as well as manufacturers and service suppliers.
