Fresh & Easy Shutters A Dozen Stores

Several Fresh & Easy grocery stores that are underperforming will be temporarily closing, KABC Los Angeles report. The company that owns the stores said it is shutting down 12 locations in California, Arizona and Nevada

“At this time, there is simply not enough growth in sales and customers at these stores to keep them open. We will close these stores over the coming weeks and we will re-open them when economic and business conditions warrant,” the company’s spokesperson said in a statement.

Company officials said it’s offering all affected employees positions at nearby stores.

The chain is reworking its strategy and focusing on areas that will be more profitable. It plans to open 25 stores by the end of March. Three of them will be in Orange County, Calif., KABC reports. The stores will be smaller and only carry the chain’s most popular items.

Stores that are closing include:

• 1709 W. Florida Ave., Hemet, Calif.

• 3170 W. Lincoln Ave., Anaheim, Calif.

• 16201 Harbor Blvd., Fountain Valley, Calif.

• 1801 Planz Rd., Bakersfield, Calif.

• 1640 Puente Ave., Baldwin Park, Calif.

• 3040 North Cedar Ave., Fresno, Calif.

• 2645 E. Riverside Dr., Ontario, Calif.

• 1904 W. Glendale Ave., Phoenix, Ariz.

• 3131 East Greenway Rd., Phoenix, Ariz.

• 13215 North 7th St., Phoenix, Ariz.

• 8365 West Camelback Rd., Phoenix, Ariz.

• 4810 W. Ann Rd., Las Vegas, Nev.

In 2009, Fresh & Easy reported a $250 million loss, KABC reports.
