A New Beginning, 2012

Last updated on September 5th, 2012 at 04:06 pm

Dathan Mitchell, Shelby PublishingI, for one, am going to pray for Barack Obama because the Bible admonishes us to pray for our leaders, but I’m also going to pray that God will give us a new God-loving, God-fearing leader in November.

I am going to try to avoid using such words as “everyone,” “never,” “always,” “all” and “absolutely” because I’m very aware of the warnings against using such words. Because when you have to eat them, they don’t taste very good.

So let me start with this statement: Not everyone will agree with me on this, but no one can deny, we’ve never been in such a mess in all our lives, and this is absolutely the truth: America always pulls herself up when disaster strikes—and it has hit us.

Our president and both houses of Congress have all let us down, not just by what they have done (such as the horrible health care bill that America cannot fund) but more what they have failed to do. They and their predecessors have taxed us until there is nothing left alive or moving that they have not or will not tax.

Just to list a few to remind you of the vast lengths our government will go to to get more and more money to spend and, in many cases, waste:

The next time you buy anything—food, drink, clothing, supplies…I mean, anything…look at the bottom of your receipt and see the taxes.

These are turned into stimulus money or funneled into pork barrel projects, shovel-ready projects, matching funds to states for projects that must be spent by a certain date.

No one person is totally responsible for all the mess, but we must start now to right the ship before all of those who follow us wake up one day and see that America has filed for bankruptcy.

You cannot continue to go trillions and trillions of dollars in debt each year and not declare yourself insolvent. It is an impossibility!!!

This is where we are headed. Actually, we are already there.

Waste, theft, mismanagement, laziness, imcompetence, arrogance and pride are all leading us into a hole we will never get out of unless you and I do something about it now.

You and I, just us, for a moment let’s talk about this: If we had 500 to 750 people who reported to us who gave the same kind of results this president, Congress and some liberal judges have, we would fire the whole bunch and start over.

Don’t get me wrong; there are some very good folks up there who are trying to change things, but there are more who are not.

We the people have a right to expect, no, DEMAND, that our leaders stop spending more money than we can send them and have a surplus to reduce this debt each year before we sink.

This is not a single person alive that, if they told the truth, would say they are happy with the way this country is going into debt every day. We had all better line up at the ballot box on Nov. 6, 2012, to vote our conscience. This is not a political or special interest issue; it is OUR issue, We the People.

For everyone who is eligible and able to vote in this 2012 election and does not do so, it is a flat-out sin. Every man and woman who is in our armed services today, many fighting on foreigh soil, and every man and woman who died to keep us free so we have this right, is calling upon us to do so.

This is not about Republicans or Democrats, conservative or liberal, color, race or religion, this is about doing the right thing for America. It’s time we got on our knees before our Creator God and pray and then get up and do what we felt led to do by Him (2 Corinthians 5:10 or Rev. 20:12).

This is a time like no other. Debt will kill you. Everyone, no matter how you feel about what I’ve just said, knows in your heart that if you are in debt and continue to go further into debt, the end result is disaster and you know it!

Our leaders, rather than get all together under one roof, decided to create a committee of 12, a “Super Committee,” to try and find cuts that will reduce our debt instead of doing the right thing and sitting down and taking a pen and start cutting. This is just one example, and you know how miserable those results have been.

We have a president who wants to fly all over this land and the world and apologize for America to prove how great he isn’t rather than lock himself and a few leaders in his Oval Office and say, “We are not leaving until we cut the spending to less than we take in. Period.”

Just a couple more notes so you will see where we are going into this election year:

  • This summer, the Obama administration said the Marriage Act, which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional, having been motivated by “hostility toward gays and lesbians.”
  • The crosses alongside Utah roads that honor Utah state troopers who have died in the line of duty will no longer bear the Utah Highway Patrol logo. The removal is the UHP’s attempt to allow the crosses to remain. American Atheists Inc. sued in 2005, saying the memorials are a “state endorsement” of Christianity.

But back to our government’s spending habits: Don’t forget the stimulus money to help buy a new car. The government will give you thousands of our tax dollars to buy a new car if you trade in your clunker. Our government will take these older cars and squash them rather than sell them cheap to the needy. Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? What a great way for your tax dollars and mine to be given away.

Our leaders, with our tax dollars in hand, go out and find green companies to “loan” our hard-earned tax dollars to. Like Solyndra, who the government says “won” a loan (our tax dollars) of more than $500 million. What a great gang we have up there that runs a lottery for a company to win our tax dollars. And then, as Solyndra filed for bankruptcy, they instituted a deal that put us, we the taxpayers of America, last in line to get back any money. What a team of leaders we have!!!

I could go on, but you get the point.
