Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market plans March openings for its first five locations in the Sacramento, Calif., region.

Fresh&EasyThe U.K-owned grocery chain, which opened its first stores in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona in 2007, announced expansion into Northern California last year.

The first stores set to open March 7 will be at Mack and Franklin and at Watt and El Camino Avenue in Sacramento, the Sacramento Business Journal reports.

The next three stores will open outside of Sacramento on March 14. Those stores will be at Lincoln and Sterling in Lincoln, Elk Grove and Calvine in Elk Grove and Natoma Street and Blue Ravine in Folsom.

Fresh & Easy CEO Tim Mason said company is “thrilled” to open its first stores in Sacramento, the Journal reports.

In conjunction with the store openings, the chain is asking for nominations for local nonprofits to get $1,000 donations.

Fresh & Easy is known for moderately priced meals and healthy fresh and frozen foods. The chain also touts its stores as using energy-saving technology. It invested $13 million for roof solar installations—one of California’s largest—to provide power for its distribution facility.

But in January, Tesco-owned Fresh & Easy announced it would close some of its California stores (and some in Nevada and Arizona) but that it still planned stores in the NorCal.

The chain also recently announced that it would not open a planned store on Fair Oaks Boulevard, according to the Journal.
