WinCo Plans 800,000-s.f. Phoenix Warehouse

WinCo Foods has delivered nearly $12 million in cash for a west Phoenix lot where it plans to erect an 800,000-s.f. warehouse within the next year and bring about 300 jobs to the Valley, the Phoenix Business Journal reports.

According to Business Real Estate Weekly of Arizona, the 74-acre parcel—located at the southwest corner of Buckeye Road and 75th Avenue—was sold by an entity controlled by Phoenix-based Swift Transportation Corp.

Boise, Idaho-based WinCo plans to break ground on the warehouse next month and expects to wrap up within the next year. Construction costs are an estimated $78 million-plus, which the grocer also will cover in cash, reports indicate.

Wood, Patel & Associates Inc. in Phoenix has been selected as the civil engineer and ESI Group in Milwaukee will oversee the build-out.

The new warehouse is intended to serve WinCo’s three existing stores in the Phoenix area—one each in Phoenix, Mesa and Glendale—as well as parts of Las Vegas and southern California. WinCo also is planning two additional supermarkets in Glendale and Gilbert, which will join more than 80 locations across the western region.
