The fourth Farm Fresh president in less than four years was revealed by the Virginia-based supermarket chain Friday.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that Farm Fresh’s parent company, Supervalu Inc., named Micky Nye to oversee the chain’s 43 stores. She most recently served as VP of operations for Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, a 56-store chain based in Baltimore that also is owned by Supervalu.
Nye, 55, plans to soon move with her husband to the Hampton Roads area and will begin working from Farm Fresh’s headquarters in Virginia Beach on Sept. 23, Jeff Swanson, a Supervalu spokesman, told the paper.
Nye has spent nearly 40 years in the grocery business, most of it with Supervalu and its banners, including Shaw’s and Albertsons before Shoppers. She also worked for the Pathmark chain, which now is owned by A&P.
She takes the spot that Bill Parker, a 14-year veteran of Farm Fresh, abruptly left in early August. Parker became acting president of Farm Fresh a year ago, and Supervalu officially named him to the role in March. He replaced Gaelo de la Fuente, a Supervalu executive who served as Farm Fresh president for two-and-a-half years after Ron Dennis retired in March 2010. Under Dennis, Farm Fresh spent more than a dozen years with no upheaval in its top office. Farm Fresh has more than 4,200 employees.
