Ahold USA has appointed Gordon Reid, a former executive with Tesco, as president of its Giant Landover division, effective Nov. 4. Reid replaces Bhavdeep Singh, EVP of operations, who has served as interim president since September. Singh continues to serve as EVP of operations for Ahold USA.
Reid will manage all aspects of the division with responsibility for Giant Landover’s sales, operating profits, organization and associates. The Giant Landover division, headquartered in Landover, Md., operates 169 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia under the banner of Giant Food LLC. The division employs approximately 20,000 associates. Included within the 169 stores are 155 full-service pharmacies.
With more than 30 years of retail experience, Reid most recently served as group director for commercial services for Dairy Farm International, a leading pan-Asian retailer that operates more than 5,600 retail outlets throughout Asia. While with Dairy Farm International, Reid created and delivered on the growth strategy for China and Taiwan, with direct P&L responsibility across three formats. Prior to that, he held a number of leadership positions of progressive responsibility at Dairy Farm International and other large retailers, including Boots the Chemists, where he led retail and pharmacy operations, and with Tesco PLC. At Tesco, he held international leadership roles in operations, including director, small format in central Europe; operations director, Hungary; senior Tesco executive, India; and EVP east region, China.
