Target Corp. has donated $50,000 in monetary support and product to assist with tornado relief efforts in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Missouri. The donation includes a $45,000 cash donation to the American Red Cross and $5,000 in gift cards to local nonprofits to provide items they need to help the community recover.
“Our hearts go out to the communities impacted by the recent tornadoes in the Midwest. These are communities we serve, and places where our team members live and work,” said Gregg Steinhafel, chairman, president and CEO of Minneapolis-based Target. “We hope our support helps to provide relief and comfort during the recovery.”
All Target stores in the impacted area remain open.
“The Red Cross is on the ground providing critical support to those affected by the Midwest tornadoes,” said Neal Litvack, chief development officer at the American Red Cross. “Thanks to the help of donors, such as Target, we’re able to respond to the needs of disaster survivors in a moment’s notice.”
This year, Target has given $500,000 to the American Red Cross as part of the nonprofit’s Annual Disaster Giving Program. In addition, Target teams spend countless hours preparing for disasters of any magnitude and will continue to help communities across the country before, during and after a crisis, according to the company.
