Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA, owner of three full-service IGA grocery stores in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, is opening its fourth location in a former Dominick’s store at 4125 Dundee Rd. in Northbrook, Ill., on Wednesday.

The Northbrook location is one of four former Dominick’s stores purchased by Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA in January. Conversions to the Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village locations are expected to be completed later this year. The Des Plaines location will be up and running by the end of the year, replacing the current Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA Des Plaines location, which will close at that time.

Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA has been a staple in the northwest suburbs of Chicago for more than 25 years. The three stores currently operating—in Palatine, Des Plaines and Algonquin—are known for offering customers fresh fruits and vegetables daily and imported Italian specialties. Full-service delis that feature Boar’s Head meats and cheeses and authentic Italian bakeries with baked goods made from recipes handed down from the Joe Caputo family are standard in all Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA locations.

In addition to a full-service deli, bakery and a large produce section, the new 50,000-s.f. Northbrook store will offer a variety of ethnic foods to reflect the diverse tastes of the Northbrook customer base, according to the grocer. These will include kosher, Italian, Polish, Russian, German, Greek, Lithuanian, Hispanic and Asian foods. The store also will include a sit-down cafe featuring gelato, an expanded produce section and a wide beer and wine selection.

Owners Nat and Vito Caputo say they are pleased to have the opportunity to share their family-owned and -operated stores with the Northbrook community.

“Our new Northbrook store gives us the opportunity to bring our brand to a whole new customer base,” says Nat Caputo, president of Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA. “We look forward to introducing Northbrook to the produce that my brother Vito handpicks daily from local purveyors, our personal service from employees who always have smiles on their faces, old-world Italian specialties in our bakery and prepared foods departments made from family recipes, and quality merchandise that’s always sold at the right price. Everything we do at Joe Caputo & Sons Fruit Market IGA comes from the heart, and we can’t wait to show that to our new Northbrook home.”

IGA SVP of Retail and Business Development Doug Fritsch is excited to bring more Joe Caputo & Sons IGA stores to Chicagoland as well.

“IGA is extremely pleased that Joe Caputo & Sons has chosen Northbrook as a home for its next new store,” he says. “They are truly the premier independent retailer in the markets they serve, and I know the Northbrook community will be a great fit. With stores soon to follow in Arlington Heights and Elk Grove Village, Joe Caputo & Sons IGA is the perfect ambassador to help expand the IGA family in Chicago.”
