Wolf Brand Chili Tours Texas To Find Bold Spirit In State

Wolf Brand Chili

Wolf Brand Chili, a brand of ConAgra Foods and the No. 1 chili in Texas, is returning to its roots, partnering with Texas photographer Lauren Marek to document the unique relationships Texans have with Wolf Brand Chili. From the brand’s birthplace in Corsicana to the Texas State Fair in Dallas, Wolf Brand Chili will canvass the state to celebrate the bold spirit of the Lone Star State.

Wolf Brand Chili’s Texas roots date back nearly 120 years to a recipe developed by Lyman T. Davis in 1895. Knowing he had a winner on his hands, Davis took the recipe to the oil boomtown of Corsicana, where he began selling it outside the Blue Front Saloon for five cents a bowl. By the 1920s, Davis began canning his chili and put an image of his pet wolf, Kaiser Bill, on the label. As chili fans began to “open up a big ol’ can of Texas” for the first time, the legend grew.

Wolf Brand Chili’s recipe remains a favorite in Texas and beyond and today offers 11 different chili recipes.

“Wolf Brand Chili has been a mealtime tradition for generations of Texans,” said Jonathan Schaefer, brand director for Wolf Brand Chili. “We’re proud of our place in the state’s unique flavor and we look forward to many more years of bringing a warm, satisfying chili to the table.”

Wolf Brand Chili is the presenting sponsor of the Magnolia Beer Garden at this year’s state fair, which runs through Oct. 19. Wolf Brand Chili will be sampled in the beer garden.

  • We are having Wolf’s chili tonight. I don’t prepare this very often. I remember having liked it more than now. How has the recipe changed—? Some things are quite different.
