James Wood, 85, former CEO and chairman of A&P, died March 26. He served as A&P’s CEO from 1980-1998 and served as chairman from 1980-2001. Under his leadership, A&P established the Superfresh, Farmer Jack, Food Emporium and Waldbaums brands to the Montvale, New Jersey-based company. In other obituary news, Kenneth Abrahams, 85, of Enfield, Connecticut, died March 30. He was president of Waldbaums Food Mart from 1969-1996. He established the Avocado Open, then New England’s largest charitable golf tournament, which raised millions of dollars for a variety of charities. He was a former member of the Connecticut Food Association’s (CFA) board of directors and was the 1986 CFA Person of the Year.
