Mark McGowan, former Stop & Shop president and currently EVP of merchandising for Ahold USA, will assume dual duties as president of Stop & Shop’s New England division and EVP of operations following Ahold’s appointment of a chief merchant officer to succeed him.

Don Sussman, president of the Stop & Shop Metro division, is New England Division president on an interim basis. The New England division president’s post became vacant last month when Joe Kelley left the company.

McGowan is a 24-year veteran of Ahold and served as president of Stop & Shop New England from 2009-12. He was named EVP of merchandising in January 2013 and previously served as EVP of supply chain. Ahold is now in search of a new merchandising EVP.
