2015 James Beard Award Winners Revealed, With Many Selected From New York

The James Beard Foundation Award winners have been announced, with many restaurant operators and chefs coming from New York.

Here are the award winners from the Northeast: Best New Restaurant, Batard of New York City; Outstanding Baker, Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery of New York City; Outstanding Chef, Michael Anthony of Gramercy Tavern of New York City; Outstanding Pastry Chef, Christina Tosi of Momofuku of New York City; Outstanding Restaurant, Blue Hill at Stone Barns of Pocantico Hills of New York; Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic, Spike Gjerde of Woodberry Kitchen of Baltimore, Maryland; Best Chef, Northeast, Barry Maiden, Hungry Mother of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Best Chef, New York City, Mark Ladner of Del Posto; James Beard Foundation American Classics, Sevilla Restaurants of New York City.

Michel Nischan, president, CEO and founder of Wholesome Wave of Westport, Connecticut, is the Humanitarian of The Year. The Wholesome Wave program connects needy families with fresh foods at affordable prices through a network of farmer’s markets.

Named to the James Beard Foundation Who’s Who of Food and Beverage from the Northeast are Wylie Dufresne, chef and restauranteur of New York City, and Maricel Presilla, chef, restaurateur and cookbook author of Hoboken, New Jersey.
