Big Y Foods, Springfield, Massachusetts, has opened its first Big Y Express Gas & Convenience store in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, adjacent to its World Class Market there.

The location contains 12 gas pumps with 87, 89 and 93 octane fuel as well as diesel at every dispenser and free air machines for tire inflation at all times. In addition to many convenience and grocery brand offerings, the location also has a selection of Big Y label milk, bread, numerous other cold beverages, candy, snacks, tobacco products, lottery, ice and propane. Beverage options include cold and hot teas, iced coffee, fountain sodas and a F’Real milk shake machine.

Big Y hired 11 new part-time employees from the area to help staff the store. They were trained in nearby Big Y stores with emphasis on customer service and technical training as well as safety and food sanitation procedures. Mike Cahoon, store manager, has nearly 30 years of retail experience with Big Y.

Big Y President and COO Charles L. D’Amour said, “We are always looking to bring our customers even more. Indeed, we are excited to not only help our customers save on their fueling needs but also make life easier by offering convenience items that our customers can grab on the run. This is especially important given the hectic lives and schedules we all lead. Big Y Express showcases our expertise in food and service along with new fuel savings for all. We are excited to be able to bring this new concept to the Pittsfield area.”

Big Y Foods operates 63 stores throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts with more than 10,000 employees.
