June 30 Is Deadline For Retirement Of Coupon Barcodes

Last updated on June 13th, 2024 at 05:24 pm

The Connecticut Food Association has reported that Food Marketing Institute and members of the Joint Industry Coupon Committee are urging retailers to prepare for the retirement of UPC Prefix 5 barcodes from manufacturer coupons. These symbols will no longer be used after June 30, as manufacturers shift to exclusive use of the GS1 DataBar format for coupons.

To ensure readiness, retailers may simply need to enable the functionality in their systems. In some instances, software and/or hardware modifications may be required.
