Raley’s Family of Fine Stores has presented Friends of Travis Fisher House with a $100,000 check. The money was raised by customers through Raley’s nickelAid program. The Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment.

“The Friends of Travis Fisher House is greatly appreciative to Raley’s for this generous donation,” said Terry Meader, treasurer. “Your donation will go far toward our normal operating expenses for food, supplies and upkeep. We will now also be able to repair or replace our gazebo, cover our patio and do necessary repairs and upkeep to the children’s playground.”

Through nickelAid, every time a customer used a reusable grocery bag—paper, plastic or canvas—at any Raley’s, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods or Food Source locations, the West Sacramento-based company donated 5 cents per bag to the benefiting cause and absorbed 100 percent of administrative fees related to the effort.

“Raley’s is proud to support our local communities and it is with great honor that we donate $100,000 to Friends of Travis Fisher House,” said Chelsea Minor, Raley’s spokeswoman. “In partnership with our customers, we are reducing the number of plastic bags in the waste stream, while giving back to our community. “

With changing regulations on the use of plastic bags, the nickelAid program will be discontinued
