IDFA Recognizes HP Hood With Sustainability Innovation Award, And More…

The International Dairy Foods Association honored HP Hood with the Sustainability Innovation Award for its partnership with CleanWorld, a local California technology company, during this year’s International Dairy Show. In January 2013, HP Hood began to divert product waste, approximately 35 tons per week, from its Sacramento aseptic and extended shelf life manufacturing facility to CleanWorld’s Sacramento-area bio digester. This partnership, which has reduced greenhouse emissions by 3,276 metric tons, is equivalent to taking 8,497 cars off the road annually. The partnership allows local restaurants and retailers to combine their food waste with excess product from the HP Hood plant and turn it into valuable products for their urban and agricultural neighbors…

Tessemae’s All Natural dressings, marinades and spreads of Essex, Maryland, a condiment company, has announced a $5 million investment led by Sagamore Ventures, the venture capital arm of Plank Industries. Tessemae’s salad dressings and condiments exclude GMO ingredients, sugar, dairy and gluten. In addition, Tessemae’s incorporates 100 percent olive oil to satisfy the requirements of the vegan, paleo and Whole 30 diets…

More than 157 million Americans plan to celebrate Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation. The average person celebrating the holiday is expected to spend $74.34, compared with $77.52 last year. Total spending on Halloween is expected to reach $6.9 billion.
