Martin’s Food Markets, an Ahold banner, will close three stores within the greater Richmond, Virginia, area in summer 2016. The stores are located at 3330 South Crater Road, Petersburg; 7324 Bell Creek Road, Mechanicsville; and 3000 Stony Point Road, Richmond.
The leases for all three locations are set to expire, and a business decision was made not to extend the leases for these stores, the company says.
“We have made the difficult decision to close these locations,” said Tom Lenkevich, Martin’s president. “The Petersburg, Mechanicsville and Stony Point store teams have worked very hard, and we greatly appreciate the dedicated service of our associates.”
A total of 357 associates will be impacted. Full-time associates will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at nearby stores. In addition, they will be offered separation benefits and transition support. All part-time associates will be offered opportunities at nearby Martin’s locations.
Giant/Martin’s is based in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and operates nearly 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the names of Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets.
