RIHA Planning Hospitality Crisis Management Session, And More…

The Rhode Island Hospitality Association will host a “Hospitality Crisis Management 101” session Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 9:30-11 a.m., at a location to be determined. A panel of experts will discuss the steps business owners need to take when confronted with a crisis such as someone who claims to be sick after eating at their restaurant; an employee who caused an accident; or a social media posting that is going viral in a negative way. Matt Whitney is the new wine director at Eastern Standard (ES) Kitchen & Drinks of Kenmore Square, Boston. After 11 years, Colleen Hein has decided to move on from ES to pursue other opportunities. Whitney, who has worked side by side with Hein since 2014, will take over and continue to expand the establishment’s recognized program. Hein was Awarded “Best Sommelier” in Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston 2015. In his two-year tenure at ES, Whitney has worked closely with Hein to help curate, define and develop the restaurant’s wine program. After becoming a Court of Master Sommeliers’ Certified Sommelier in November 2014, Whitney placed a particular focus on deepening the ES cellar to offer an even more diverse selection of varietals and vintages…
