Giant Eagle Fried Chicken Express Truck Goes On The Road

Last updated on June 13th, 2024 at 05:03 pm

Giant Eagle has launched its Fried Chicken Express food truck. The new branded vehicle hit the roads around western Pennsylvania during July to serve up the fried chicken customers find in-store.

“With our Giant Eagle Fried Chicken Express, we are able to take one of our signature recipes out of the supermarket aisle and into communities where we anticipate it will be met with excitement and delight,” said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan. “We took an old Maryland family recipe to make the most irresistibly crispy, incredibly juicy fried chicken available at food truck festivals, sporting activities, business parks or any other outdoor event where the taste of fried chicken would be appreciated.”

The truck will offer an extensive menu of chicken items, from the traditional 8-piece bucket to single meals, chicken fajitas and Caesar wraps and salads, Firehouse Chili and Slaw, Market District macaroni and potato salad, and Firehouse chicken sandwich meals.

According to IBISWorld’s Food Trucks market research report, the food truck industry has experienced a remarkable rise over the past five years.

The report also indicates that the industry has outperformed the broader foodservice sector over the period in terms of revenue expansion, with an annualized rate of 9.3 percent, and is poised for continued growth.

Once food trucks were owned and operated almost exclusively by street vendors, independent food operators and stand-alone restaurants. But today, larger players like Giant Eagle and Nestlé are getting involved, contributing to an estimated $1.2 billion in annual revenue for the food truck industry.

“The Fried Chicken Express embodies our modern approach to fine casual American cooking. It’s about providing a simple, pleasurable, uncomplicated experience, but with high-quality and fresh ingredients that customers expect from Giant Eagle,” said Donovan.
