Construction is under way on five new Dollar General stores in southeastern North Dakota, marking the chain’s entry into the state. The stores are expected to celebrate grand openings in spring 2017 and, when completed, will expand the company’s presence to 44 states across the country.
“Expanding our footprint into North Dakota provides Dollar General an opportunity to not only deliver value and convenience to additional customers in the upper Midwest, but to also serve communities through our mission of ‘Serving Others,’” said Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos. “Meeting our customers’ needs is our top priority when choosing store locations, and we look forward to being a long-standing business partner in the state, as well as welcoming new customers into our stores when these projects are completed next spring.”
Stores currently are under construction in the following locations:
• Highway One at Cedar Street in Oakes (Dickey County)
• 705 First Avenue South in Ellendale (Dickey County)
• 601 Sixth Street Southeast in Hankinson (Richland County)
• 507 West Caledonia in Hillsboro (Traill County)
• 8179 Highway 32 in Gwinner (Sargent County)
These five stores feature the traditional Dollar General store format, which is approximately 9,100 total building square footage and 7,400 sales floor square footage. The stores’ layout provides a customer-friendly format with fast checkout, as seasonal products are displayed in the center of the stores, departments are easily recognizable with visible signage and coolers are conveniently located at the front of the stores, according to the Goodlettsville, Tennessee-based retailer.
Dollar General says it plans to identify additional areas for new store growth in the state. The company most recently expanded its footprint from 40 states to 43 states with the grand opening of stores in Maine, Rhode Island and Oregon in March 2015.
