Sheetz Opening Four New Stores This Week, And More…

Sheetz is opening four new stores this week in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio. The store in Indiana, Pennsylvania, is the company’s third restaurant/grocery concept; the other two fuel-free concept stores are located at West Virginia University and in State College, Pennsylvania. The concept store has a complete focus on Sheetz’s traditional Made-to-Order selections, sandwiches and salads, prepared food and bakery items. As part of all of the grand openings, Sheetz is making a donation of $2,500 to Special Olympics Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio…

Mondelez International has ended discussions with The Hershey Co. regarding a possible combination of the two companies. “As the world’s leading snacking company, we remain focused on successfully executing our strategy to deliver both sustainable top-line growth and significant margin expansion and are well-positioned to continue to deliver value to our shareholders,” said Mondelez Chairman and CEO Irene Rosenfeld. “Our proposal to acquire Hershey reflected our conviction that combining our two iconic American companies would create an industry leader with global scale in snacking and confectionery and a strong portfolio of complementary brands. Following additional discussions, and taking into account recent shareholder developments at Hershey, we determined that there is no actionable path forward toward an agreement. While we are disappointed in this outcome, we remain disciplined in our approach to creating value, including through acquisitions, and are confident that our advantaged platform positions us well for top-tier performance over the long term.”…

According to new research from Mintel, more new energy drink products were launched globally in 2015 than in any year since 2008, growing 29 percent between 2010 and 2015. While energy drink launches around the world have grown, Mintel research found that, when it comes to innovation, Germany had the highest share of new energy drink product launches in 2015, overtaking the U.S. for the first time. Nine percent of global energy drink launches occurred in Germany in 2015, as opposed to 8 percent in the U.S.
