Gorton’s Seafood Earns Sustainability Award, And More…

The Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) has recognized Gorton’s Seafood of Gloucester, Massachusetts, as a winner in its inaugural AIM Sustainability Award For Excellence program for managing environmental stewardship, social well-being and economic prosperity in Massachusetts. Gorton’s changed the temperature of its truckloads to significantly reduce the environmental impact of transporting its product to grocery stores. After conducting extensive tests, Gorton’s determined it could set its truckloads at minus 1 degree Fahrenheit instead of the traditional minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit without reducing the quality or integrity of its product. Gorton’s has seen an immediate impact: the 9-degree change is saving approximately 15,000 gallons of diesel fuel a year. This is equivalent to removing 85 cars from the road or planting 696 trees per year…
