Alabama’s Western Markets will host a grand opening of its new Mountain Brook store in the Lane Parke development of Mountain Brook Village in Birmingham on Thursday, Oct. 13. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. The new Western Market will replace an existing store, which the grocer has called home since 1959.

“We’re a small local chain, and this is a big deal to us. We think we built a store that the community is going to enjoy. It’s a store that our employees are certainly proud of,” said President and COO Darwin Metcalf. “Mountain Brook consumers want to shop in their neighborhood. They want to be close to home, and they don’t want to travel long distances to buy groceries or to go to the drug store or laundry. There’s loyalty in the Mountain Brook community—their commitment to supporting independent retailers. They get it. They understand that when you support an independent local retailer, those monies are reinvested in the community.”

Geared toward a complete shopping experience and a local feel, the new store will include a Western Coffee Shop featuring O’Henry’s Coffee drinks, Heavenly Donuts delivered fresh daily, warm muffins every morning, a gas-fired rotisserie, a wine shop with a temperature-controlled wine room and in-store dining. Western Market also will feature an on-staff cheesemonger, wine experts and a growler station serving popular draft beer selections. Customers can purchase wine by the glass to enjoy while shopping or dining in the store.

In addition, the new store will feature personal service traditionally associated with Western Markets, such as certified master butchers offering custom-cut meats, local brands, expert floral designers, deli and bakery.

The Lane Parke shopping center is adjacent to the Grand Bohemian Hotel and Lane Parke apartments. The luxury village-style shopping center will include Revelator Coffee, Kinnucan’s Specialty Outfitters, M&S Interiors, The Local Taco, CharBar No. 7, B. Prince, P2 Platinum Pilates and A’mano in Phase 1 of the development.

Western Markets operates stores under the Western Market, Food Depot, FoodSmart by Western and the Village Market brands.
