On Thursday, Nov. 21, Ingles Markets presented a check for $20,625 to Harvest Hope, Golden Harvest and Second Harvest of Metrolina food banks to benefit six counties throughout Upstate South Carolina. Throughout the months of September and October, Ingles customers purchased red backpack icons for $7.50 to battle food insecurity within the Upstate region. The retailer said media partners iHeartMedia of Greenville and WSPA-TV played a vital role in the success of the 2019 “Fill A Backpack Program.” These funds will be distributed among food pantries in Anderson, Greenville, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens and Spartanburg counties. The presentation was scheduled to take place at Harvest Hope food bank located in Greenville.
“Ingles remains poised to battle food shortages in our region. Food insecurity is a serious matter for children on the weekends, holidays and extended breaks…especially for children who depend on school meal programs for their daily nutrition,” said Melissa Leavell, director of advertising for Ingles Markets. “Every year, this program helps more children and continues to grow because of the strong relationships we share with our loyal customers and local media partners.”
