SugarBee Apples To Be Sold Through Three New Partnerships

SugarBee

With the fall 2022 crop of SugarBee apples in early harvest, Ephrata, Washington-based Regal Fruit International has announced that sales of the proprietary brand will be coordinated by Regal Fruit in a partnership with Chelan Fresh, CMI Orchards and Sage Fruit.

According to Regal Fruit International, retailers are aware that one of the most in-demand domestic apple varieties is the SugarBee. Its crisp crunch, caramel-and-honey toned sweetness and excellent storage make it among the most highly sought-after varieties for retailers nationwide.

Chuck Nystrom, a Minnesota-based orchardist and member of the North American Fruit Explorers, discovered the SugarBee via a chance seedling in the early 1990s. He partnered with Regal Fruit International to develop the original B-51, patented as CN-121 variety, trademarked and marketed as the SugarBee. By managing long-term planting cycles, orchard caps and price setting, Regal Fruit has ensured SugarBee’s status in the marketplace.

Consumer demand for SugarBee continues to grow nationwide due to the comprehensive branding and marketing campaigns from Chelan Fresh over the past five years. The SugarBee brand features honeycomb-shaped PLU, bright packaging and kid-friendly messaging.

Many of the SugarBee growers are part of third and fourth generation families who are passionate about growing apples, pears and cherries. The growers commit to best agriculture and business practices so that their families can continue to farm for future generations.
