UFCW 8-Golden State Begins Informational Picketing

UFCW 8-Golden State President Jacques Loveall announced that union volunteers established informational picket lines Oct. 6 at a Nugget Market and a Walmart Supercenter in West Sacramento, Calif.

“Our members are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure that workers at Nugget Markets and Walmart have the same access to the good wages, health care benefits, pensions and job security provisions that are enjoyed by union members”

The Nugget Market is at 2000 Town Center Plaza and the Walmart Supercenter is at 755 Riverpoint Ct.

Loveall said the union is asking the public not to shop at the stores, which provide substandard wages and benefits to their employees. He urged shoppers to patronize Save Mart, Food Maxx, Foods Co, Vons and other stores that meet community standards.

“Our members are prepared to do whatever it takes to ensure that workers at Nugget Markets and Walmart have the same access to the good wages, health care benefits, pensions and job security provisions that are enjoyed by union members,” Loveall said in a press release.

UFCW 8-Golden State represents some 35,000 members who work in grocery and drug stores, food-processing plants and offices from the Oregon border in the north to Kern County in the south.
