Giant Food Hiring 900 Part-Timers With Acquisition of Genuardi’s Stores

Last updated on December 14th, 2012 at 05:40 pm

Giant Food Stores said it will hire 900 part-time employees as part of its acquisition of 15 Genuardi’s stores.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports that Giant made the announcement Friday after receiving Federal Trade Commission approval to buy the Genuardi’s Family Markets from Safeway Inc. The stores are in the Philadelphia area.

Giant, of Carlisle, Pa., said it also hired 1,700 former Genuardi’s employees—“nearly all who applied for employment with Giant at the stores Giant is purchasing,” it said.

The deal was announced in January. Dates for the store conversions will be disclosed later.
