A Southern-style emporium featuring cooking classes, a specialty grocery store, a restaurant and more is now open for business in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Live 5 WCSC reports that Southern Season, located at 730 Coleman Blvd., is holding a grand opening celebration through Sept. 22. The festivities include live music, cooking demos, tastings and a “Southern Happy Hour” beginning at 4 p.m.

The 44,000-s.f. store offers an assortment of local and international gourmet foods. The cheese section boasts more than 380 varieties, while its wine and beer department is packed with more than 3,000 wines from around the world and more than 300 craft beers.

After checking out Southern Season’s specialty grocery store and kitchen and housewares section, patrons can make their way to the attached Southerly Restaurant, which features an open-air patio and bar.

This is Southern Season’s second location, with a store currently open in Chapel Hill, N.C. The company plans to open a store in Richmond, Va., in 2014.

The new Mt. Pleasant store is open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

Jamie Deen to sign copies of latest cookbook at Chapel Hill store next month

Jamie Deen, star of Food Network’s “Home for Dinner with Jamie Deen,” will make an appearance at Southern Season in Chapel Hill to sign copies of his latest cookbook, “Jamie Deen’s Good Food: Cooking Up a Storm with Delicious, Family-Friendly Recipes.” He will be at the store from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1. The Chapel Hill store is located 201 S. Estes Dr.

Deen is the son of Southern cooking icon Paula Deen and brother of Food Network star Bobby Deen. Making their first television appearances on their mother’s cooking shows, the brothers later launched their own show, “Road Tested,” on the Food Network.

“Jamie Deen loves helping people learn how to cook delicious, healthy meals for their families, and that really comes through in Jamie Deen’s Good Food,” says Southern Season GM Gena Sarrocco. “We are excited to have him here to sign copies of his cookbook, which features recipes that can be made with many of the locally sourced ingredients customers can find here at Southern Season.”

Deen says, “This book shares the most important things in my ‘grown-up’ life as a husband, father and cook—my personal tastes and values, which always means sitting down together as a family over a home-cooked meal that everyone can enjoy.”
