Alliance Retail Group Grows To More Than 600 Stores

ARG

The number of independent supermarkets served by Alliance Retail Group (ARG) now totals more than 600, the Tennessee-based group said this week. These stores represent the largest independent self-negotiating group in the country with locations in 19 states and a combined retail volume of more than $3.5 billion.

“With the opening of our office in Overland Park, Kansas, we’re really able to strengthen our presence in the mid-America market. In the past year alone, we have added over 130 stores—pushing our store count to 630-plus independent supermarkets,” said ARG President Joe Wolf. “That momentum continues to strengthen our negotiating position on behalf of our retailers.”

ARG was established in January 2004 with 56 stores supplied by Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG). Alliance was able to provide these retailers with a business model to help them join marketing forces with similar businesses in order to access the lowest possible cost of goods while maintaining the independence needed to compete in their marketplace.

Alliance Retail Group specializes in vendor negotiations, full advertising services and industry-leading technology for all of its independent supermarkets. At the end of 2014, ARG says it will distribute record payouts to its members.
