Cyber Monday Sales Break Record, Day Marks Most Online Orders For Walmart

Walmart-CyberMonday

E-commerce sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving hit $2.04 billion, up 17 percent compared to a year ago, according to analytics firm comScore, making it the biggest online shopping day ever, and the first to surpass $2 billion in sales.

Not surprisingly, Walmart says that Cyber Monday was the biggest online day in its history for orders. Customers viewed more than 1.5 billion pages on Walmart.com between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, the five-day period of deep savings Walmart recently dubbed “The New Black Friday.” The deals continue as the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer says Walmart.com also will offer 500 deals online every day for the rest of Cyber Week, which runs through Friday.

“We worked hard to bring amazing deals to our customers on Cyber Monday and they responded by driving our Cyber Monday volume to a new all-time high,” said Fernando Madeira, president and CEO of Walmart.com. “Customers should keep checking Walmart.com for incredible new deals on tablets, HDTVs, toys and more every day for the rest of Cyber Week…”

Walmart saw a higher traffic surge than previous years in the evening as it offered the Cyber Monday Evening Edition with deals at a time convenient for working Americans and Millennials. Mobile accounted for approximately 70 percent of traffic to Walmart.com between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.

This year, more than 100 Cyber Monday specials were available for free same-day pickup at Walmart stores, giving customers the fastest way to get their Cyber Monday orders. It was Walmart’s biggest day ever for same-day pickup with orders increasing 70 percent over last year. Top-selling store pickup items included the 2014 Holiday Barbie Doll, Xbox 360 Special Edition Bundle with Call of Duty Ghosts and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and Nextbook 10.1″ 2-In-1 Detachable Windows Tablet.

Walmart.com’s best-selling Cyber Monday items included the Apple iPad mini 16GB; PS4 500GB Console Bundle with Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and LittleBigPlanet 3; Nintendo 3DS XL New Super Mario Bros 2 Limited Edition Handheld; Xbox One Assassins Creed Unity Bundle; LG 49″ LED HDTV; Skywalker Trampolines 12′ Round Trampoline and Safety Enclosure with Blue Spring Pad; and LEGO Giant Creative Tower: 1,600 pieces with storage box.
