Mark Collier of Collier’s Supermarkets in St. James, Minnesota, has been named chairman of the Minnesota Grocers Association (MGA). He takes over the position from Patrick Miner of Miner’s Inc. in Hermantown. Miner was honored for his two-year term as chair at the MGA’s recent convention in Brainerd, which was attended by more than 300 members of the state’s food industry.
Following in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps, Collier is the third generation to own and operate the family’s SuperFair Foods store. The company employs 60 people, and Collier is active in the day-to-day operation of the store, which is in its 54th year of business.
Collier’s father, Dick, was a longtime member and past chairman of the MGA. He believed in the efforts of the association, and Collier credits him with his involvement in the MGA. As Collier looks to the future of the MGA he says he holds a strong commitment to continuing the work of those before him in building a viable organization that advances the industry’s priorities.
Collier’s dedication to the vitality of the retail food industry and community service will be the cornerstones of his two-year term as the MGA’s chairman, according to the group. He is a strong advocate of the MGA’s legislative agenda and has a great understanding of the political process; he knows firsthand the value of engagement and letting the voices of the industry be heard. Collier will engage the support of all industry partners to educate consumers on the industry’s commitment to the communities it serves. In addition, Collier is vested in promoting careers within the industry.
