Edith Murnane of The League of Women in Meat has organized a three-day event—Women in Meat Northeast—Oct. 16-18 at Harvest Forest in Petersham, Massachusetts.
Women in Meat Northeast is focused on developing the skills, knowledge and network of women in meat industries as well as supporting their endeavors as business leaders and as entrepreneurs in those industries. Women in Meat includes those in agriculture, aquaculture and seafood. It is for those involved in farming, butchering, processing and product development and for those in the restaurant and foodservice industries.
Several organizations are sponsoring Women in Meat Northeast, including the Northeast Pork Association, Beef Checkoff, Chefs Collaborative, Range Inc. and Stillman Quality Meats.
Many of the sessions will be led by Kari Underly, a third-generation master butcher and author of the James Beard Foundation-nominated book, “The Art of Beef Cutting.” She is the principal of Range, a meat marketing and education firm.
Many topics will be discussed over the course of the three-day event. An agenda can be found here.
Assisting Underly in the discussions will be Amanda Kinchla of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst; Samantha Stoddard of Farm Credit East; Joanne Demars of USDA Rural Development; and Kate Stillman of Stillman Quality Meats.
