Kettle Cuisine Buys Florida-Based Chef Creations, And More…

Kettle Cuisine of Lynn, Massachusetts, has purchased Chef Creations of Orlando, Florida, which produces wholesale soups and sauces for restaurants and retail operations. The plant operations will be shifted to Boston in July, and many of the Orlando plant staffers face layoffs. Food Policy Action has reported that Chef Tom Colicchio has asked chefs to oppose the U.S. Senate’s new version of the GMO labeling act. Forty-eight hours after the initial petition, 2,000 chefs and food professionals from 37 states signed opposition to the bill. “Consumers in 64 other countries have the right to know whether the food they buy contains GMOs, and consumers in the United States should have that same choice. Sen. (Pat) Roberts’ outrageous new bill is exactly the kind of anti-transparency measure that voters across the country are rejecting,” said Colicchio. The chefs’ petition to Congress reads: As chefs, we have a fundamental right to know what’s in the food we cook and serve to our customers. Bruegger's BagelsBruegger’s Bagels, known for its authentic New York-style bagels and egg sandwiches, and Jamba Juice, a specialty beverage brand, will open the first of several planned co-branded stores in early March in Melrose, Massachusetts. The menu will include fresh-baked Bruegger’s Bagels, sandwiches, soups and salads, and desserts alongside an assortment of Jamba made-to-order smoothies, fresh squeezed juices and Jamba Energy Bowls. Several other co-branded locations currently are under construction in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
