Giant Food recently received the Maryland Chamber of Commerce’s Business Philanthropy Award in the large business category. The award, which is a joint program of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore Business Journal, recognizes Maryland businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life for Maryland residents through extraordinary philanthropic efforts.
In 2016, the grocery chain donated $315,000 in grants to the Maryland Food Bank, $121,000 to military families and $1.3 million to helping 873 Maryland schools through Giant’s A+ School Rewards program. Additionally, Giant’s commitment to health and wellness initiatives across the state was demonstrated through its partnership with Ripken Baseball’s Get Out and Play clinics, which provide exercise and wellness programs to Maryland’s Children.
Giant Food is headquartered in Landover and operates 169 supermarkets in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
