ABA To Celebrate Bakers With Tiptree World Bread Awards

For the second year in a row, the American Bakers Association (ABA) will celebrate the best American bread bakers in partnership with the Tiptree World Bread Awards Oct. 29-30, in New York City.

ABA is supporting two categories in the 2019 competition: Sourdough and Wholewheat/Wholemeal. The two categories are among 14 total, which range from baguette to pretzel.

Competitors—which include wholesale bakers—have the chance to receive a cash prize, trophy and industry recognition should the expert panel of judges deem their product the best in class. The awards are now open for online registration. Bread entries close on Sept. 30.

“Bakery has a rich history in America, as both a staple in the American diet and as a multi-billion-dollar industry,” says Katie Juhl, ABA’s marketing and communications director. “We are excited to recognize and celebrate the best of America’s bakers.”

Judges include New York baker and James Beard Foundation Award nominee Zachary Golper of Bien Cuit; renowned food editor Dana Cowin; food Instagrammer Alexa Matthews, EatingNYC; Claudia Sanchez, editor, Edible Queens; Jansen Chan, director of pastry operations, International Culinary Center; Scott Goodfellow, joint managing director, Tiptree; and David and Tracey Zabar of Zabars.

“We are thrilled to be associated with American Bakers Association, the USA’s preeminent organization representing the baking industry, with our shared passion and commitment to the world of baking,” says Caroline Kenyon, founder and director of the Tiptree World Bread Awards USA.

The Awards Evening at Landmark on the Park on Wednesday, Oct. 30, will honor the winners and give all finalists the opportunity to mingle with VIPs of the press, baking and food worlds.

Inspired by the UK Awards, the top annual competition for professional bakers in the United Kingdom, the USA Awards celebrated its first year in 2018.
