Associated Grocers Inc. (AG) held its Spring Food Show at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, Louisiana, late last month, drawing more than 800 vendors, manufacturers, retail members and store representatives. The wholesale distributor recently tallied the food donation it was able to make to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank as a result of the show, and the grand total came to 18,756 pounds of food, which will provide more than 15,000 meals to the food bank’s service area.
In addition, flowers from the event were donated to Gonzales and Baton Rouge area assisted living and nursing home facilities.
The show featured new items, merchandising ideas and current services available to AG’s retailers. Many of the distributor’s private label brands, such as Shurfine, Pure Harmony, Sweet P’s, Buckley Farms and Culinary Tours, were on display. Other highlights of the event included a “Your Brands” section that allowed retailers to get into a cash grab booth dispensing vouchers for free cases of private label items. The show also featured a kick-off cookout social event with a “Everyone’s a Winner” casino theme, music and food.
AG serves more than 180 independent retailers throughout the Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas region. It provides retail operations support and solutions to its members, helping independent supermarkets to compete with the national chains, the company says.
